We are rolling into the final week of Marvel Super Heroes spoilers. Like any good employee, I found myself browsing a very large collection of spoilers on the clock instead of focusing on my duties. But as any faithful nerd, after looking through all the potentially hot cards in this set, I believe that is entirely justified.
Now, as much as I would like to talk about every single one of these gems, there are just far too many cards. Instead, I have picked six that stood out from today's spoiler release, along with potential synergies to pick up.
Doctor Strange, Surgeon
Doctor Strange is a must-have for any Lifegain decks. Not only does he help you survive, with 10 extra life every creature you control gets a buff, turning even modest creatures into legitimate threats while leaving them ready to defend against your opponents' next attack
Potential Synergies:
Loki, Lord of Misrule
I really don't know what to say about this one except "By Odin's beard, that's awesome!".
Loki is the kind of commander that can go from a fair value engine to a table-ending threat with almost any creature that has a strong static ability and is worth adding to any deck running blue. Turning every creature into your best creature—including legendary creatures—can quickly transform an ordinary board state into a game-ending threat.
For a card like this, it is very difficult to nail down only a handful of synergies. Though if you want to give him a try, here are a few of my own preferences...
Potential Synergies:
Ultron, The Annihilator
It is understandable why this Ultron has been making a craze on the internet before its official spoiler release.
Ultron could easily be described as an artifact-aristocrat commander wrapped in a Marvel skin. Every cracked artifact, milled artifact card, discarded artifact, or destroyed artifact becomes a source of life loss for your opponents.
Potential Synergies:
Hydra Assault Robot
This little gem was the highlight of my day. Nothing more than a modified Reckless Fireweaver android. He might not look like much, but in the right deck, he becomes a pretty nasty threat. It doesn't care about casting spells—it cares about artifacts and Villains entering the battlefield. This means if you have Villains, artifact lands, creatures, tokens, or just plain artifacts. Every single one represents additional damage to your opponents.
Potential Synergies:
Hit Monkey
I wouldn't be surprised if Hit Monkey becomes the next Badgermole Cub. While he does cost a few extra mana to get out, he is almost untouchable thanks to deathtouch and hexproof, which will discourage opponents from attacking you while making blocking an unattractive option.
Possible Additions:
Ultron, Unlimited
I have to admit, I find myself attracted to the Ultron cards. Whether it be my affinity for artifacts or the fact that he is a strong Marvel villain is up for debate.
With a built-in card draw/discard, he can steadily improve hand quality while also fueling graveyard synergies.
Potential Synergies:
Molecule Man
Unfortunately, you can only find this precious gem in the Doom Precon. However, that won't stop this nerd from drooling over it. While Molecule Man could be considered an Eldrazi, he remains a Human Villain. Nevertheless, I'm confident he will be one of the most sought-after cards in the entire release
For a guy like this, you'll want to ensure you get some additional first card draws to help you draw into the right cards. You might not be able to cast each one for free, but you'll still get that extra boost you need.
Potential Synergies:
At the time of writing, we have just over a week until prerelease, two excruciating weeks until we get our nerdy little hands on the precons, and far more excitement than patience.
